Margaret N. Smith, 97, passed away 9/27/2015. She was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Marguerite (Wallace) and William Nichol. She attended Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington, and received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College, a master’s degree in social work from Bryn Mawr College, and a master’s degree in library science from Drexel University. She was a high school librarian in Pennsylvania and also worked as a librarian at Lehigh University and New York University as well as in the Jersey City library system. Upon retirement, she traveled extensively and lived in many locations including North Carolina, Florida, Illinois, and Virginia. She relocated to Port Charlotte in 2010. She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (and husband Ron Reel) of Arlington, Virginia, Beverly (and husband Phil Dratz) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Bonnie (and husband James Ingram) of Port Charlotte. She has one grandson, Christopher Dratz. She enjoyed attending exercise sessions at Golden Years Gym and her Alzheimer’s activity groups at Living Waters Lutheran Church in North Port and Community Life Church in Port Charlotte. Margaret had a wonderful sense of humor and contagious laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a future date.
