William Thomas Condon, 73, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Bayfront Health in Port Charlotte, FL.
William was born on August 21, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late William J. and Dorothy Condon. As a young man, William joined the Army, and became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, proudly serving with the Army during the Vietnam War era. In civilian life, he entered into law enforcement, and retired as a Sergeant with the NYPD after serving 20 years as a law enforcement officer. William and his beloved wife Marie (nee – Delfino) Condon, moved to Punta Gorda from Staten Island, NY, in 1987. He was a member of the South West Florida 10-13 Club for retired members of the NYPD, and was also a member of the AMVETS, V.F.W. and American Legion.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by an older sister, Dorothy Anne Condon, and his wife of 50 years, Marie in November of 2013. He is survived by his children, son, James (Maite) Condon, and daughter, Lynda (Timothy) Wilburn; grandchildren, Colin and Liam Wilburn; sisters, Claire (John) Murphy, and Ann Marie Condon; two nieces, and numerous extended family members, including his shelter rescue dog, Shawn, though an Italian Greyhound, he noted with pride, was being raised Irish.
Visitation for William will be held this Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Roberson Funeral Homes Punta Gorda Chapel at 215 Mary Street, from 2 – 4 p.m. with Wake Service at 3:30 p.m., and viewing again from 6 – 8 p.m. William will be inurned with military Honors at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida, along with his late wife Marie.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Williams’ memory to the Animal Welfare League, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
