William will be inurned with military Honors at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida, along with his late wife Marie, at 12:30 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017.

William Thomas Condon, 73, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Bayfront Health in Port Charlotte, FL.

William was born on August 21, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late William J. and Dorothy Condon. As a young man, William joined the Army, and became a member of the 82^nd Airborne Division, proudly serving with the Army during the Vietnam War era. In civilian life, he entered into law enforcement, and retired as a Sergeant with the NYPD after serving 20 years as a law enforcement officer. William and his beloved wife Marie (nee – Delfino) Condon, moved to Punta Gorda from Staten Island, NY, in 1987. He was a member of the South West Florida 10-13 Club for retired members of the NYPD, and was also a member of the AMVETS, V.F.W. and American Legion.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by an older sister, Dorothy Anne Condon, and his wife of 50 years, Marie in November of 2013. He is survived by his children, son, James (Maite) Condon, and daughter, Lynda (Timothy) Wilburn; grandchildren, Colin and Liam Wilburn; sisters, Claire (John) Murphy, and Ann Marie Condon; two nieces, and numerous extended family members, including his shelter rescue dog, Shawn, though an Italian Greyhound, he noted with pride, was being raised Irish.

Visitation for William will be held this Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Roberson Funeral Homes Punta Gorda Chapel at 215 Mary Street, from 2 – 4 p.m. with Wake Service at 3:30 p.m., and viewing again from 6 – 8 p.m. William will be inurned with military Honors at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida, along with his late wife Marie.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Williams’ memory to the Animal Welfare League, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.

I met Billy at the 78 Pct In 1973. He was always there for me when I needed backup. Also enjoyed our fishing trips to unwind. A great guy and a great friend. Rest in Peace Billy, till we meet again

Although we are unable to physically be with you today, please know that we are there in spirit. Although this pathway has ended, the next pathway has no end to a much brighter place.

Nothing can ever replace our loved ones, but in the process of grief and coming to term with your loss, words, prayers,memories and music can be a great source of inspiration. Bill was a great man, a great father and a great friend. Now he is smiling while we crying. Jimmy (Maite), Linda (Timmy) and the rest of the family, we know that your faith is strong, and we want to encourage you to hold on to it. Faith is the evidence of things unseen. So very sorry for your loss. I lived down the block, on 7th St, when we were kids.Went to your parents wedding. Love and prayers for them.

I met Bill on the NYPD and we spent many a night looking for bad guys (and most times finding them). But my fondest memories of Billy are the many times we would go on his boat fishing out of the Great Kills Harbor. Rest in Peace my friend.

I'll never forget you Bill . I remember when I was a rookie I made my first arrest with you and Griff. I'm glad over the years we became good friends. You were a great role model. I wanted to be a sharp though cop like you. Over the years we had many laughs and good times. It was great to see you and your son when you came up to NY for your birthday and Giants game. I loved the war stories you Griff ,Larry and I shared that day over some cold ones. I'll truly miss you my friend . Until we meet again.

Our prayers are with William may he rest in peace. He was a wonderful person and it was a pleasure sharing family events with him. He has now gone home to the Father and we pray that Jimmy, Lynda and family have peace knowing that he will always be with them from Heaven.
