Ronald O. “Ron” Nelson, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL.
Ron was born November 29, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Nels E. and Louise A. Nelson. Affectionately referred to as “Grumpy” by his family and close friends, Ron was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired Lithographer. He and his wife Carole L. (nee – Schwartz) Nelson, moved from Northbrook, Illinois to Punta Gorda in 1994. He was a member of the Punta Gorda Civic Association, Twin Isles Country Club, Punta Gorda Elks Lodge 2606, and a running enthusiast, the Zoomers Southwest Florida Running and Triathlon Club of Charlotte County, FL.
He is survived by his children, son, Ronald M. Nelson; daughter, Cindy (James E.) Briody, and grandchildren, Brian and Brianna Briody. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carole, in 2014.
A private committal will be held by the Nelson family.
