Rev. Fredrick M. Carlsen, 100, of Arcadia, Florida peacefully at home on Thursday, September 29, 2016.
He was born February 9, 1916 in Muscatine County, Iowa to the late Emil and Frieda Carlsen and moved to Florida in 1982 from Mannsville, New York. He was a retired United Methodist minister and a member of the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a 1944 graduate of United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio and was ordained a United Brethren minister. In 1946 the United Brethren and Evangelical churches merged. As an Evangelical United Brethren minister, he served as a mission church in Tampa from 1951 to 1957. In 1968, with the EBU-Methodist union, he became the first former EUB pastor in Western New York to be appointed to pastor a former Methodist church.
Upon his retirement in 1982, he and his wife, Olive moved to Arcadia. He became the Sunshine Minister at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church and began preaching and leading worship services at the Royal Palm Retirement Center and Vick Street Manor in Port Charlotte, ministering to both until 2010.
He is survived by his loving family, a daughter, Mary Olive Meyer, a son, Jonathan A. Carlsen, both of Arcadia; a sister, Dorothy Shapland of Sutton, Nebraska; a grandson, Samuel A. (Minodora) Meyer; a great granddaughter, Isabella Meyer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 year, Olive Carlsen and a grandson, Fredrick E. “Rick” Meyer.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016 at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
