Raymond D. Rose, 79, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away after a short illness on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Ray was born on October 13, 1937 in Buffalo, New York. He attended the University of Buffalo earning a bachelor’s degree in 1959. After college Ray served for 17 years in the US Air Force. He continued his career with Kodak for many years and later retiring in 1998. During his 18 years living in Punta Gorda he contributed to many non-profit organizations. His work in the community helped Punta Gorda grow. He will be profoundly missed and his contributions to our community will have a lasting effect.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol; 2 daughters, Sharon (Phil) Pyrce of Getzville, NY and Sandra Rose of Pittsford, NY and 2 grandchildren, Theresa and Brian.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday 3:00 PM, July 16,2017 at the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Assn., 2001 Shreve Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Friends are invited to speak and share their memories of Ray or provide a written remembrance for the family.

The family has requested memorial contributions in Ray’s name be made to Tidewell Hospice inc., 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238. Friends may visit online at www.robersonfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Punta Gorda Chapel.

Carol, you are in my prayers at the loss of Ray. He was a very special person and giving in so many ways. All his hard work for Punta Gorda will be long remembered and sorely missed. His special smile could light up the room. I feel honored to have known Ray and call him friend.

Ray was my mentor, my confidant and most importantly a good friend to both myself and my husband, John for the last twelve years with the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association. He was an extremely intelligent individual who worked quietly behind the scenes to assure the best possible outcome for all involved. May Carol and the family find comfort in that he was well loved and respected throughout our community. He will be forever missed!

Carol -- Pardon the lateness of this note, but I have a houseful of grandkids. I would just like to pass on my deepest condolences on Ray's passing. As a longtime observer of all things Punta Gorda, I can tell you not many people can match the contributions he made to this community. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. Ray was a fine gentleman and friend. I enjoyed working with Ray on the Cultural Center Board of Directors over the past several years. He worked hard to improve Charlotte County and Punta Gorda. My thoughts and prayers go out to his lovely wife Carol and his family. He will be greatly missed.

This is very sad. Ray was always upbeat and willing to help. I enjoyed his computer club meetings and his easy going fun personality. He will be missed.

Ray will always be remembered as a gracious and generous person. Our love goes out to Carol, Sharon, Sandra and the rest of the Family. Ray will be missed.

We enjoyed many holiday dinners with Carol and Ray, laughing at his wonderful stories. One of Ray's favorite sayings was, "Don't let a few facts get in the way of a good story". If there is a newsletter in Heaven, Ray will be in charge of the mailings or volunteering for various committees!. Gene and I want to express our deepest sympathy to Carol, Sharon, Sandra and the rest of the Family.

I was shocked to learn of Ray's death. It was so sudden. We've known Carol and Ray since they moved to Punta Gorda. From the beginning he became involved with the Town of Punta Gorda and Charlotte County. He was a wonderful neighbor, never too busy to help. He contributed much to the recovery of Punta Gorda after Hurricane Charlie. He has kept me computer literate these many years and was always available to help. He will be missed by me and all who knew Him. May He Rest in Peace.
