Joyce Marie Rothgeb, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Elmira, New York, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Joyce was born May 10, 1934, in Auburn, New York. She was one of six children of the late Harry E. and Ruth Mae (Ingraham) Harvey. She graduated from Horseheads High School in 1952. After beginning a family, she relocated in 1966 to Port Charlotte, FL where she founded Joyce Realty with her husband, John, in 1971. She built a successful real estate business before selling the business and retiring to Punta Gorda Isles, FL. Joyce was a member of many organizations including Port Charlotte Methodist Church, Punta Gorda Civic Associations, Punta Gorda Elks Club, prior member of the Charlotte County YMCA and the National Association of Realtors. Joyce was a generous soul, who cared for the pets of many of her friends who were no longer able to. She had a love for travel and visited many countries throughout her life, with a special affection for her ancestral home in Galway, Ireland. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and Aunt and will be missed by all.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Wade P. Sours, C. David (Nina) Sours, John H. Sours and step-son, Lewis Rothgeb; daughters Susan M. Quick and Myra R (Mick) Vicente; siblings, George Harvey, Judy Harvey and Karen Durfey and numerous grand-children, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a sister Patricia R. Durfey and brother Harry E. Harvey, Jr., nieces Shawn Margaret and Michelle Lee Durfey, and on Oct. 1st, of 2008, by her devoted husband of over 39 years, John.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Roberson Funeral Homes, 2151 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte. Funeral services with interment to follow will be held starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Feb. 10, in the chapel at Roberson Funeral Homes, and conclude with committal at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte, FL where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, John.
