James “Jim” A. Baker, 73, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Born August 15, 1942 in Decatur, Indiana, to the Late Fred J. and Mary Jane (nee – Shaffer) Baker, Jim, a longtime Drywall and Painting Contractor, moved to Charlotte County in 1996 from his native home of Decatur, IN. He loved Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish and NFL’s Chicago Bears football teams, and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his children, daughters’ Kris Everett, and Karrie Hamilton; sons’ Paul and James Baker; and seven grandchildren; sisters’ Barby Boyd-Bowman and Mary Curtis; brother, Jerry Baker; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife Gloria “Jo” Baker in 1979, and more recently, a son, Stephen Baker.
A Memorial gathering followed by a Prayer Service will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with service at 7 today, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel. Further services and committal will follow in his Native Indiana.
