Ethel Lovett Jones, 97, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 at her residence.
Born May 7, 1919 in Oak Park, Illinois, Ethel graduated from the Oak Park – River Forest High School, before marrying her husband Charles W. Jones in 1938. They brought up two daughters together. After Charles’ retirement, they moved to Punta Gorda from River Forest, IL, in 1979. Ethel was a founding member of the Platinum Point Yacht Club, was a 50 year member of Eastern Star, and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters Margaret E. Jones (Joseph Bigus), and Suzanne Jones Ryan (Robert Gross); four grandchildren, Kevin C. White (Patrice Hudson), Timothy M. White, Dennis P. (Kathryn) White, and Deborah (Jeffrey) Lee; 12 great grandchildren, Jennifer, Brian, Tricia, Tori, Mike, Matthew, D.J., Jack, and Henry White, and Tyler (Nikki) and Trevor Santi, and Tiffany Lee; and one great-great grandchild, Camden Santi. Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Charles in 1999, and a grandson, Lt. Col. Geoffrey R. White U.S.M.C., in 2004.
Services celebrating Ethel’s life will be held by the Jones family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial bequests in Ethel’s name are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
